VISIT TO TIBET
In
the year 2005 SOTN carried out various fund raising
activities for our school project in east Tibet. SOTN also
received donations from individual
people and organizations. The money we generated ( 8000
euros) through different channels was hand carried to the
village by my family members in the summer of 2006. In
November 2006 during our Tibet Day 2 event we showed a film
over the handing of the money to the authorities of the
village. In that same year SOTN received a generous amount
of 9000 euros from Sport and Spel, Maasland. We needed to
get the money to the village so Ms. Hilly Verboon and I
decided to go to Tibet to hand over the money and also to
see for ourselves the progress being made of the school
building.
Hilly and I left for
Tibet on the 17th June 2007 and returned on the 30th June
2007. We are proud to announce that the school building is
coming on very well. They have finished the first floor
containing 2 spacious class rooms that will accommodate
30-35 children each. They have nearly finished building the
toilet and two garbage bins. The school is built in the
architectural style of the village. The window panes,
pillars, wood work inside and the doors are painted with
vibrant colors. Once the school has been completed, it is
worth being proud of. By October 2007 they will finish
building the school. They still need to finish building the
top floor and put the finishing touches to the windows,
beams, panels and laying wood on the floors etc.
The authorities have
already begun giving lessons to the children. We did not
meet all the children as the school was closed for the
summer and most of the children had gone away to visit
family members.
The authorities, the
children and inhabitants of the village thank each and
everyone who has donated and helped organize activities to
raise funds for the school.
